Variations of roulette

The basic concept stays the same, but there are few differences between the variations of roulette. Usually when talking about roulette variations, we’re talking about the following variations:

  • European roulette
  • French Roulette
  • American roulette

European roulette

This is the most commonly-offered variation of Europe in all casinos and also online. European roulette has only a single zero instead of two zeros, single and double zero.

French Roulette

Similar to European roulette with the exception of the betting board, that is laid out differently. Options for betting are the same as well as the payouts and there is only one single zero as well. However the addition of “La Partage” ruling makes it notably different compared to the European roulette. Under this rule player receives half of the bet back when betting on even money, if the spin results to zero. The advantage that the rule brings makes French Roulette slightly more favorable versus the European roulette.

American Roulette

Needless to say, American roulette is something that you will find in most of the casinos in the United States. Everything is pretty much the same compared to European roulette except the extra zero, double zero. Where in European roulette there is only single zero on the board, in the American roulette there is the same single zero but also a double zero. While this may seem insignificant, it actually makes the game more favorable to the house than the European roulette.
